Description of Library: Europe's most comprehensive research collection on development issues, with approximately 50% of the collection published in the global South. Extensive collection from and about all Sub-Saharan Africa, broadly in relation to social and economic development. Sources of information include developing and donor country governments, international and regional organizations, non-governmental organizations, research institutions and commercial publishers. African Government publications are on closed access, but visitors can be given access to the stacks if necessary.

Special Collections: We hold an extensive collection of African Government material, particularly strong on statistics and development plans. The library collection as a whole contains a large proportion of Africana. We index a large number of our journals, predominantly those published in the South, which means that articles on Africa, from these are listed on the online catalogue

Collection Start: Since 1966, when the library was founded. A certain amount of material published earlier is available.
Access and opening hours: External users are welcome, and should sign in at the library Service Counter. No special ID is required. Opening hours: Monday - Friday 9.15 am - 5.30pm, with the Service Counter open from 10am. We are open throughout the year, except on Bank Holidays and for short periods over Christmas and Easter. Note that access to the building is restricted from 5.00 pm to swipe-card holders.
