Description of Library: BCEA, the Portuguese Central Library of African Studies is a Lisbon-based reference and research library on the social and human sciences.

It was established in 2005 (and founded in 2007), thanks to the joint efforts of the most relevant African Studies research centres in Portugal, and the financial support of the FCT-Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, and the FCG-Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

BCEA's collection covers the entire African continent, displayed by geographical regions, including Northern Africa.

Special Collections: CLAS / BCEA major special collection is the Bank of Angola's colonial collection, consisting on monographs, institutional documents, private companies reports, journals, and archive material, offered by Millennium-BCP in 2009.

Collection Start: Founded in December 2007, CLAS / BCEA inherited the Africana former small collection from the ISCTE Library, and was the recipient of donations that included earlier material starting on the late Nineteenth century.
Access and opening hours: The Central Library for African Studies is lodged inside the ISCTE Library. It's an open access library for reference. Borrowing membership is restricted to students, teachers and researchers of the ISCTE and the African Studies Centre.
